I’ve been listening to Graves into Gardens (By Elevation Worship) pretty heavily over the last few weeks and as I was singing I noticed something. I am singing scripture! I didn’t know what chapter and verses specifically but I recognize pieces of the lyrics as phrases from the Bible.

This was a big deal for me! because (to be completely honest) sometimes I don’t set aside enough time to read and meditate on scripture. You see I read a daily verse or a portion of text by it doesn’t always stick with me throughout the day.

However, when I am listening to a song repeatedly it gets stuck in my head! (I’m sure you know that feeling). In this case, I didn’t mind because it wasn’t a endless loop of the latest jingle. Instead, it was something encouraging. I felt better as I sang to myself… ☺️

So I took notes as I listened and then started googling. Eventually, I found the scripture that connected to the song! It was rich and full of truth… lyrics with substance. ❤️

My takeaways and personal challenge:

1. Reflect on what you’ve been listening to. Is the music and media life-giving? Is it something you want to be stuck in your head?

2. Meditate on the words to worship songs. Ask the Lord where the words are found in scripture. He speaks! And don’t forget you can Google 😄

3. Try writing scripture as well as reading. Writing actually helps with your memory. It doesn’t have to be pages on pages of scripture, you can start with just one verse. Take your time and write out.

4. Do something creative with your devotional time. It doesn’t have to be doodling but have fun and try something new!
